Praise Is What I Do...

Praise is what I do because I owe that to God. He has done so much for me. He has kept me even when I thought I didn’t deserve to be kept. He has brought me out of dark places, and His grace is the reason I stand as tall as I do today.

Every day that I have breath I will praise His name. The circumstance doesn’t matter. The outcome doesn’t matter. I will always lift my hand unto thee offering the highest praise.

Our God is greater than any other and I will remind Him daily of His value to me. My walk is one based on faith, and He never fails… I don't know what's around the corner but I know He does. That's why I'm holding on!!

When you realize your purpose it is required that you embrace it through your efforts. I have done that and continue to do so daily. God has been so good and I love Him with every bit of my heart. He is the head of my life. I do nothing without Him. My decisions come out of prayer. I believe in His word. I continue to worship and pray. The Lord makes a way even when I can't see one. I will never give up on my desires and I hope you do the same. I am committed to holding on to His promises...

I've been ministering at a number of funerals recently. It has allowed me to look out over my life. My praise continues to increase as I realize how blessed I am. I see how God's grace has protected me and brought me out of some dark places. God has shown me His heart. And I am full...

I wanted you to know that I have more songs available on iTunes. I ministered "On Time God," "Sweetest Name," and "Blue Rain." The sound may be a little different but I am offering up the same praise. It's on the Gospel Workout-Dancing in the Spirit CD. God has been so good and this is a reflection of His grace. Thank you for your continued support. We are working on some great things. I am looking forward to sharing them with you when each project comes to completion. Diligence and dedication will bring it all to fruition. 2012 is the year!! Be steadfast.

Yesterday I went to Warwick, New York for a studio session with Martin Dominguez Ball. We were working on completing my Acoustically Anointed album. While we were working on the project new ideas quickly emerged taking us in an entirely different direction. When you surround yourself with likeminded people ideas come from every angle. God placed Martin and I together so that we could bring you the very best. We are working to do just that.

I hope that everyone has remained focused on their goals and plans for 2012. We are each given a life that some say is just “a dress rehearsal.” It isn’t. The lives we were each given are precious and very real. God provides opportunities for us to rise or fall. We have to make decisions that are best for us. I make the decision to rise out of every dark moment in my life a better person. It is very easy to give up and walk away. Standing tall is much harder, but it’s important to our growth. It’s imperative that we rise above in order to have a peaceful life.

Don’t be dismayed when the road is dark. In even your darkest hour you can grow. You are able to rise out of every storm stronger than when you went in. How do I know this? I know this because I know you. I know that each and everyone of you are winners. Look in the mirror everyday and remind yourself that you believe in you. When you do, growth occurs and you make room for the blessings that are on the way. People are facing hard times but I know they will get through. Our faith and belief in ourselves guides us along our most difficult steps. Out of every storm comes a rainbow. Make sure you’re ready for yours…
Make 2012 your best year! Believe in your ability to be whatever it is that you desire. God sees your efforts and diligence, and His favor will reign upon you. Get ready for your blessings…

Starting the year off strong... HOLD ON!

We are blessed to see another year roll in and I know I am truly grateful. I must confess that 2012 has started off strong for me. God is smiling on me and I am accepting of His grace. The year started off with God allowing me to increase my territory. I ministered live at 90.3 FM radio in New York City. I am grateful for the opportunity to minister live and be interviewed at an incredible radio station. I am thankful to everyone involved who created this amazing opportunity for my music ministry. It was a great New Year’s Day event. I see this opportunity as an indication of what's to come.

I am looking forward to the many things I have lined up for my ministry. I am working on completing my CD, Acoustically Anointed. I am accompanied on the CD by the amazing musical talents of Martin Dominguez Ball. Within the next few weeks I will be releasing my second single from that album, “I Surrender All.” The album will be released on the Soulful Soundz Music Group, LLC record label. "Tis so Sweet," is currently available on iTunes.

On December 16, 2011, I released a Gospel House EP on Ace Beat Records, which is available on www.traxsource.com. Songs on the EP include, “On Time God,” “Sweetest Name,” and “Blue Rain.” I hope the EP will bless you as was intended.

This year I look forward to what God has in store for me. He never fails. He is working in my life and I am in awe of His amazing power and grace. I hope you’re ready for what God has in store for you! As for me, I am holding on tight and ready for this great ride. I will keep you posted on upcoming events and continue to encourage you, as I encourage myself through my music ministry.

I hope everyone’s holiday season is blessed. This is a wonderful time of year when God gets all of the praise. I praise Him daily but this is a time when we are focused on gratefulness, kindness and grace. It’s the time of year when we are supposed to spread His word through kindness and love. Make sure you look out for your neighbor. If they need a hand, offer it to them, and many more will be offered back to you. Times are difficult for a lot of people and although your extra might not be a whole lot, someone else may have less than you do. Giving your “little bit” may extend beyond their needs. Lets all try to be a blessing in the life of at least one person or family this holiday season. Our kindness doesn’t have to be monetary. If you see any need step in and offer even a smile or an ear to listen. Be mindful of the needs of others this holiday season. Especially since at one time or another we all need a kind word or hand.

It’s been a busy 2011. I make sure I pause to say thank you, and acknowledge God for everything He has done in my life. From the big things down to the smallest, I thank God for every aspect of my life. God is blessing me from every direction. I have been busy making efforts to expand my music ministry. I am working on various projects and am focused on using my vocal ability to reach saints and future saints. I am getting ready to release my single, “I Surrender All,” on the Soulful Soundz Music Group, LLC record label. In early 2012, I will be releasing my traditional album, “Acoustically Anointed.” Currently my single, “Tis so Sweet, “ is available on iTunes and at other digital distributors. I thank you in advance for your support.

Tonight I will be ministering Gospel House in Brooklyn at the Night of Gospel Lighthouse. Meet me at 207 Lewis Avenue for a wonderful night. Admission is $10.00 and it takes place from 9p.m.-1a.m. Come out and celebrate the holiday season with us. There will be DJ’s spinning records until 1 a.m. It is definitely going to be a good time. On October 1, 2011 I eagerly ventured to a small town in upstate New York called Warwick. Nestled at the end of McEwen Street in Warwick is Union AME Church. A new church rests in place of the original church built in 1906. The previous church is now housed a few streets away and has been preserved. The original church was built for the African American residents to worship on the street where most lived.

My manager beamed as she shared a childhood story of her grandmother being the mother of the church. As I entered the new church, I felt the presence of those who worshipped in this building as well as the old church. Although the outside or physical state of the church looked different spiritually it remained the same. I stood on what I considered sacred grounds where my ancestors praised.

It was a fulfilling experience on all accounts. Tony Smith played his saxophone blessing us with the sweets sounds of Gospel through his instrument. The Immanuel Mime Ministry traveled from the Bronx to praise through dance. E’lissa Jones and Rhonda Dimmie blessed us with their magnificent voices. Sharael Moore as Mother Jones blessed us with thoughtful and hysterical comedy. Without a doubt the spirit of the Lord was definitely in Union A.M.E. Church.

I ministered the only way that I knew how. I love the Lord and express it with all of my might. I ministered traditional, contemporary and Gospel house music. I enjoyed my time at Union A.M.E. Church and look forward to being a part of it next year. I carried the praise of my ancestors on my shoulders and "Oh what a time we had!"

Life has been good. God has been blessing me staying true to His word. I never had a doubt that He would keep His promises. I am looking forward to the things to come both seen and unseen. I sing to express the joy in my heart for Jesus. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to share my music ministry.

South Orange 9/11 Remembrance Program

Ten years ago I stood in the window at my office building in Newark looking into New York City. As the planes hit the towers my heart became full. Like everyone else I couldn't wrap my head or heart around the magnitude of what I was seeing. Years have gone by but I remember the exact moment our innocence was challenged and our lives would change forever. I will never forget that day.

Many lives were lost and many others were affected directly by this traumatic event. Tomorrow night at 7 pm., at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, I will be ministering at the 9/11 Commemoration lifting my voice in honor of the lives lost and touched on this day ten years ago. Ordinary people were brought together to experience an extraordinary time in our history. Heroes emerged and we came together as one making us stronger as each year passes.

I hope you'll be able to come to the candlelight vigil, which starts at 6:15 pm. and will be followed by guest speakers, clergy and music. If not, take a little time out to remember the heroes who lost their lives on that day. I will never forget them.

My single "Tis so Sweet," was released on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and other digital distributors. I am so full! God showed me favor allowing me to share my ministry with the world. My goal has always been to minister to all I come into contact with on my journey. Releasing my single allows me to do just that.

My praise is beyond measure. God has blessed me to accomplish my goals. I look forward to releasing other singles and ultimately completing my album, "Acoustically Anointed."

I hope this post finds you blessed. I'm coming off a weekend of praise and worship. I had a wonderful day of service at St. James AME and The Life Center Family Worship with Pastor Asaph Womack. I ended my day of worship spending time with my family. That, too, was a wonderful time. I enjoy our Sunday dinner. There's nothing like family!

I'm looking forward to the release of my single "Tis so Sweet..." Its off my album, "Acoustically Anointed," which is due for a fall release. I wanted to share it with you which is why my single is on the way. I've had to make some changes to the single but it really is going to be out soon. Nothing comes easy so you have to be patient and persistent! No reward without putting in hard work is what I found to be true.

I'm also working to complete my album so that its release will be on time. I can't explain the joy this all brings to me. It's a reflection of God's love for me. Favor ain't fair, they say. I sure like the favor He's showing me.

On July 29th I'll be at the annual Lincoln Park Music Festival in Newark, NJ. It's a fun time that I hope you won't miss. It's a day of FREE events. There'll be lots music, food and dancing. I have a concert in Warwick, NY on October 1st. There will be a saxophonist and praise dancers. It will be an evening of praise that you won't want to miss.

I hope to see all of my supporters at my upcoming events. Without God on my side I wouldn't be anything. However, I need you to share my word. Your support is beyond measure and I thank you for all that you do.

Making faith not making sense!

This past Saturday, Brother Hahz held an all white Gospel concert in Rahway, NJ. To say it was a blessing to my spirit is not enough. It would be an understatement. When I tell you that Brother Hahz and Donald Lawrence ministered to my spirit and my soul entirely, I'm not even sure if that's enough!

I've never been a fan of rap. I only know one rap song and it's by the Sugar Hill Gang. Brother Hahz is a lyrical genius. The things he rapped about were words that we all needed to hear. He grabbed the mic and from the first word he took me in. There was power in his words and the passion and love he has for God was evident.

Donald Lawrence sang some
new and some old songs. He blessed me from the top of my head to the very souls of my feet with a single from his new album which will be released in June.

The worlds are simple. They are even few. The power behind the lyrics moved me to tears! "For the rest of my life, I won't be making sense. I'll be making faith!" The power in those words pushed all of my truths to the light. I'm sure folks been talking about me and my endeavors because that's what folks do. I may have even heard a few whispers along the way. What I know to be true is exactly what this song sings about. Basically, I'm living this life and the fullness of my dreams guided by the supreme faith I own. Off on a journey that I know will lead me to my destination.

God already told me that He would guide me. He believes in me when others don't. He strengthens me when others won't. I've been walking on this journey making sense to some and not to others. Never apologizing for my dreams or ideas. Every step a testament of my faith!

Donald Lawrence took those words out of my heart and placed them with a melody. It's a reflection of my purpose and journey. No questions left for me to answer. Just know... I won't be making sense because I'm making faith!!

One Year Anniversary!

Tonight the Gospel House Cafe is celebrating it's one year anniversary. It's going to be a great time of socializing, eating, door prizes, singing and dancing. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the lights go out at 11:00 p.m.

We'll be at the IRBY Dance Center at 128 Irvington Avenue in South Orange, NJ. I hope that you come out to celebrate with us. If your family is visiting for Easter bring them along with you! It's going to he a great time!

God is my all...

Sometimes I stand looking out over my life like folks who stand verifying the damage after a bad storm. I'm left in a similar state of awe amazed by where I've been on this journey and where my feet have landed. I might shake my head or lift my hands but it means the same thing. I am who I am and I stand where I stand because of the grace of God!

God is my all. He has allowed His favor to rain upon me. Whether in a storm or with blessings flowing from every direction, I smile knowing He has and never will leave me. God is my all and there is no feeling like His love.

I am because He is. Nothing can compare...

Gospel House Cafe...

The Gospel House Cafe this past weekend was an amazing event as always. I planned on ministering two songs but was asked to do another. My manager said, "You showed off tonight!" I wasn't trying to "show off" per se. I wanted to make sure that God heard me praising His name.

God is the head of my life and I honor Him every chance I'm given. God is so that I am and it is my responsibility to let Him know that I know that it is by His grace that I'm still here.

I had the pleasure of being in the same space at the Gospel House Cafe as Dawn Tallman and Barbara Tucker. Ms. Tucker spoke a few words that she didn't have to share with me in reference to my music ministry. I know God sent Ms. Tucker to the GHC to speak those words onto my heart. Again, bringing further confirmation that I'm in the right place...

This weekend I'm venturing off to the St. John A. M. E. Church in Birmingham, Alabama where Reverend Mashod Evans is the pastor. Please lift me up in prayer as I journey to Alabama to minister in God's honor.

I keep telling you that He's doing great things. All you have to do is have faith and He will do the rest!

Ministering in Warwick, NY!

This past weekend I ministered at the Union A.M.E. Church's Women's Season Conference in Warwick, New York. It was an event honoring six women ranging from a social worker to a doctor that had been an integral part of the community. One of the honorees was my manager's mother so I dedicated my selection to her. It was a special moment for all of the women but I wanted to make it extra special for her.

Warwick, NY is a little over an hour from NYC nestled in the Hudson Valley. The church members reminded me of the congregation at the small church I ministered at in Arkansas with a mighty praise! I didn't see any cotton fields but I did see a horse on Main Street and cows on the roads we travelled. That's country, right?

It was a great experience and a few unexpected opportunities came out of it. I look forward to what's to come. God is always showing up to bless me with something. When I least expect it a few blessings manage to rain down on me. If that's not God then who or what is it? It's all God. It's as simple as that.

This weekend I'm turning my versatility hat to the side and will be ministering at the Gospel House Cafe in South Orange, NJ. I hope too see you there and thank you for the continued support...

This weekend on March 19th I will be in the beautiful Hudson Valley area of New York. I will be ministering in Warwick at the Dautaj at the Warwick Inn. It's been many years since I've travelled up that way but it will be like going home! I'll be ministering at the Dautaj Women's Season Conference which takes place from 12pm-4 pm. I'm looking forward to ministering in a new yet familiar venue.

The following weekend on March 26th, I will be at the Gospel House Cafe with Dawn Tallman from 6-10 pm. We will be ministering at the IRBY Dance Center at 128 Irvington Avenue in South Orange, NJ. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. There's going to be food, dancing, and powerful praise!

I hope to see old and new friends at the Gospel House Cafe and trust that I'll reconnect with old friends while making new ones in Warwick, NY. This truly is my season and I'm glad we're taking this journey together. To God be the glory!!

Praises go up!

When the praises goes up the blessings rain down. Believe me when I tell you God is doing great things. I never doubted that He wouldn't. I'm just in awe when He does. I find myself praising Him for no specific reason on most days. My praise is consistent and brings me peace. Sometimes, I catch a brief glimpse of Him working wonders in my life. The favor He shows makes the praise just runs through my veins!

God is so good. Whether it's a big or small blessing or glimpse of what's to come, I'm grateful. He brings such comfort over my life sprinkling me with His blessings!

I can't tell you about the projects I'm working on but I will soon. Just know with diligence and prayer He will bless you! Today I might not be where I want to be but I know on tomorrow I will be closer to where my heart desires. When the praises go up... To God be the glory!!

This past Saturday I ministered at the Gospel House Cafe. It was a great time! I'm looking forward to the next one. I ministered with Kenny Bobien and August. It was an experience that I am glad I shared with my supporters and friends. I will keep you posted as the next event draws closer.

I'm in the process of working on a few songs that I will be releasing soon. I am looking forward to sharing my creative ideas with you. My management team and I are working on a few other things as we remain focused on moving my ministry to the next level.

Next month I'm traveling to Warwick, NY to minister on Saturday, March 19th. I am looking forward to ministering at one the programs supporting the Union A.M.E. Women's Conference. I always enjoy going to a new venue especially when I know it's going to be the same praise.

This past weekend I ministered at the Gospel House Cafe. There was a great vibe and the spirit of the Lord definitely showed up at the IRBY Dance Theater. If you missed it, you can come check us out in February. I will give you the specific date once its given to me. I hope to see you there. I ministered with Stephanie Cooke and Shannon Renee. It was a great time so I hope you make the next event.

I am working on a few projects that I will share with you soon. I have been praying for direction and the Lord is directing me. He has put a few things on my heart and I will share them with you soon. I prayed for direction and as always He replied. There is nothing like the Lord when you need an answer. Friends are good. Family is better. The Lord, He's the greatest. Sometimes your answer doesn't appear when you want it to but it always does. I am doing what I have to do to take my music ministry to the next level.

Thank everyone for their support. God is doing great things in my life. I will keep you posted on my endeavors as always. I love the support from those in the United States as well as abroad. It makes me work harder to do what God has called me to do... blessings!!

I wanted to extend my wishes to everyone for a wonderfully blessed new year. I wanted to reach out before too much time got away from me and apologize for not writing sooner. My life has been a little busy and I want everyone to know you’ve been on my heart and mind despite the fact I haven’t blogged in a few weeks.

I am preparing for the Gospel House Cafe in South Orange on January 22, 2011 from 6-10 p.m. featuring myself, legendary artist Stephanie Cooke and a special performance from Shannon Renee. I hope the snow and ice stay away so we can have a great night at the IRBY Dance Center. In addition, I am working with my manager in an effort to acquire label representation while creatively pulling together ideas for my CD.

My 2010 ended the way my 2011 began… blessed! I am still working diligently to bring my music ministry to another level. I trust that God is guiding my path where He thinks I need to be. I stand tall prepared for whatever this year brings. I have an idea of where I’m going but will keep that close to my for heart now. When the time is right you will know too. I do anticipate big things and know God doesn’t bring any less to people who work hard to acquire their goals and dreams. I hope you are working as hard at reaching your goals as I am. Putting words into actions breeds success!

A week ago I was the featured artist at the Gospel House Cafe in South Orange, New Jersey at the IRBY Dance Center. It was a night when everyone in the room was on their feet dancing for the Lord. A friend of mine who has some physical disabilities related to MS was dancing which confirmed that God was in the room. It was an amazing sight to see! I mentioned in my previous blog that it was an extension of Thanksgiving praise and thats exactly what kind of night it was.

This month we will be in South Orange again but Stephanie Cooke will be there as well. The event occurs on Sunday, December 26, 2010, due to Christmas being on Saturday. For future months please note that it will be every fourth Saturday! There will be DJs spinning records that won't allow you to praise quietly sitting down. A continuation of Thanksgiving praise!!

I trust that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving with family and friends. I enjoyed mine. I'm thankful for so many things that God has done and will do for me. He has opened so many doors for me including doors I didn't even see. As He expands my territory, I just can't thank Him enough. I embrace my blessings and take a moment out of everyday to say, "Thank you, Lord." He has been so good to me and I express my gratitude every waking moment.

I'm looking forward to extending my praise into the Thanksgiving weekend. I won't be running to Black Friday sales but I will be giving Him the highest praise. The WFDU's Gospel House Cafe will be taking place tomorrow night from 6-10 p.m. at the Irby's Dance Center in South Orange, New Jersey. Let God have His way....

Yesterday I spent ten hours in the studio doing what I love. There is nothing like creating a new melody and recreating an old one. I completed my demo yesterday and am going to sit still watching God work.

I worked with Martin Dominguez Ball who is an amazingly talented musician who resides in upstate New York. Martin has his own band, leads the music ministry at his church, is a student, husband and father in no specific order. With all those titles on his plate, he managed to add me to the plate because he, too, was doing what he loved. I just met him yesterday but feel like I've known him a lifetime. I was able to see a reflection of his life through his heart knowing God placed me in good company. I thank God for him as he continues to expand my territory and look forward to working with Martin again on other projects. Stop by www.larrama.com and check him out for yourself.

Completing this demo has been a process but God saw fit to bring it to completion. Now my manager has the pleasure of sharing this project with others. I look forward to the possibilities but remember, I sing because its what I want to do. I don't put a dollar sign on my songs. I don't sing for the monetary value but the value it places on my life and in the lives of others. I minister from the heart to your heart. My dream is to reach as many followers as possible and if this is the way God wants me to do it, I shall.

Oh what a time we had in Sherrill, Arkansas...

This past Sunday, we pulled up to this little country church in Sherrill, Arkansas which sat adjacent to a small cemetery and across from a cotton field. Being from Newark, New Jersey I was a little out of my element environmentally at St. Luke's Missionary Baptist Church but never outside of my comfort zone. I knew that God showed up despite the location. This was just a new step on this journey God had for me that ran down a private road in a small church where I am sure my ancestors once praised.

We drove up to the little brick church and were one of only a few cars parked outside. Everything about this church was different than the churches back home in New Jersey and New York but I felt His presence as soon as my feet touched the ground. It has never mattered to me how many people I minister to, where I had to go to get them or how large the venue. So the size of the church and the number of people in the pews were never a concern of mine. I felt at home here as I took in the setting of the church and its members.

Immediately upon exiting the car we were greeted by Pastor Gregory Little, his wife Andrea Roaf-Little and their two children. We were ushered into the church to prepare for me to share my music ministry. As always I asked the Lord to guide my spirit and opened my heart to whatever was laid upon it. I stood in that little country church and embraced the love from its pastor and the church family and began ministering via song.

This was my first trip to Arkansas and initially I wasn't sure what to expect. In New Jersey and New York we praise a little differently but ultimately the praise is the same. I worshipped with a small church off on the side of the road where the members are few. But the praise was a triumphant praise. I worshipped with "folks" who didn't care about the size of the congregation, church or location. All they wanted to do was praise the Lord and that's exactly what they did.

One of the church deacons said, "We've been asking God for something like this for a long time. God brings things exactly when we need Him to." And off to my left I heard the mother of the church lead the congregation in devotion. The pastor, his wife and the deacon thanked God aloud that I came to share my music ministry not realizing how thankful I was. I was and remain grateful that God allowed me to worship with Pastor Little and look forward to returning to Arkansas to minister there again. My heart is so full because I, too, had been asking God for a moment like this. As always, He opened another door for me expanding my territory.

Pastor Little stated in his sermon that, "Every door that God opens is not for you." I am so glad I entered this door and am ready to embrace the additional doors it will open. God is so good!

On Sunday, I ministered at the Paterson Museum. Gospel House Authority hosted the Gospel House Cafe. After sound check was complete, I was talking to someone who had driven from upstate New York to enjoy the evening. After talking to him for a few minutes, he points to my display and asked, "Now who is this gentleman?" My managers pointed in my direction and the young man apologized as he blushed. My vision has remained the same but my outside appearance, mainly my hair, had changed.

This young man shared a story upon realizing who I was... "One night I was wide awake and needed to listen to some good music. I was searching the radio when I came across this music I had never heard before. It was Gospel house music. Although I wanted to dance physically my spirit danced instead. Sir, you ministered to my spirit that night." I thanked him and stood in awe of God's grace.

Then he added, "The station I came across was www.wfdu.fm. Last Friday, I turned them on again. I sat listening to the DJ and chatted with him as he was on the air. Then I requested to hear one of your songs and boom, there it was." He heard my interview that night too. I stood in awe amazed at what God can do if you just believe...

After the event, I was walking to my car when a gentleman asked, "Do you have any CDs left?" I did. "Yes, I do." I gave the man a CD explaining that one of the two songs that I ministered, "Blue Rain," was on this CD but the other song was a new single and wasn't released. I added that the other song on the CD, "Lift up Hands," was available on both iTunes and www.traxsource.com He replied, "Oh my God, I didn't know that was you. I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to meet you personally." It was my honor to meet him.

I don't want this post to come off as arrogant. I wanted to share what my heart felt that night. It was full. I entered the museum that night with the goal of touching the hearts of those who danced in praise. My heart, through shared praise and these two specific interactions, was touched. I was inspired and encouraged. I support my vision and received further confirmation from God through the support of strangers, that I was in the right place.

To God be the glory...

Take Jesus at His Word...

I don't know if you know what I know about Jesus but I assume that you do. If not, I'll let you know a little bit about my experience with Him. I praise Him when the warmth of the sun runs over my eyes in the morning and washes through my spirit during the noonday. By evening, I've praised Him many times for the things He has done and for things He's going to do.

I started on this journey to minister to the spirit of saints and seekers professionally a few years ago. Things have not always gone like I've wanted them to but that only increased my desire to work harder staying on course. During this entire time my praise has never wavered. It has increased becoming more steady as each day passed. God has directed every step and is placing me on the correct path to get where I'd like to go.

On this wondrous journey God has blessed me with many opportunities to praise His name. I recently had an opportunity to minister at a birthday celebration for Rev. Dr. Milton R. Biggham. I was both grateful and honored to be a part of this celebration. In preparation for my CD release I have been in the studio remaining focused and steadfast. With each note my heart swells with love as I praise His name. In November I will be traveling to minister in both Pine Bluff and Little Rock, Arkansas. My single, "Lift up Hands," was made available on iTunes and Amazon today. Ain't He alright?

I take Jesus at His word and am a witness that He will do what He promised. I spoke to Jesus expressing my heart's desires, goals and dreams. With each passing moment He's bringing me closer to where I want to be. My one desire is to minister to those that are standing tall with conviction or those lost in the valley searching for an answer. Jesus is in the process of bringing all of that to fruition. I took Him at His word. I gave Him my heart and I can't even put into words what He has given back to me. However, if you look closely you will catch a glimpse of it in my praise.

Take Him at His word because the best is yet to come...

I will be ministering at the Hour of Praise service at St. James AME Church in Newark, New Jersey today, August 18, 2010 at noon. I am looking forward to this service as it gives me another opportunity to praise His name. If you are unable to attend, I invite you to view the service online at http://stjamesame.org.

No one said that we are to worship the Lord on Sunday mornings only. We are free to praise His name as we choose. I praise the Lord at all times and in any setting. I am not ashamed to praise His name. I praise Him on the highest mountain, in the lowest valley or in the midst of my triumph. I live to praise His name.

As the song says, "Praise is what I do." I implore you to tune in at noon live via the internet or come to 588 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Newark, NJ as we bless His name. Just a quick note to let all of my supporters know that I haven't forgotten about you. I am working on a few things that God has blessed me with and getting ready to stand taller as I see my breakthrough shining through the clouds. I am also confirming some dates for when I will be ministering in New York and New Jersey. Once they are confirmed I will inform you of the dates. I am connecting with old friends and establishing new connections. God is good and I am basking in His grace. New things, new blessings and new wonders but still dancing with that same old joy. As you all know, I ministered at the 5th Annual Lincoln Park Music Festival in Newark, New Jersey last night. I had a "new" look, style and sound. I usually minister traditional songs at this event but last night, I stepped out on faith and tried something different. No matter what the sound--rap, house, traditional or contemporary--praise is praise! I ministered a new single, "Thank you" and "Blue Rain."

I always ask God to bless me when I minister in His name so I knew that He would. His favor is one thing that I know is consistent. However, as I graced the stage, I informed the large crowd, my hometown crowd, of the fact that I was coming at them from a different direction. I asked them to listen to my new single giving me their honest opinion of the song and this "new" style. The crowd willingly obliged. They welcomed and expressed their satisfaction of my "new" style through their expressive praise as they openly danced for the Lord.

Looking into the eyes of the young and old while witnessing their praise I knew that I, the homegrown minister, had truly accomplished my goal of touching souls. I realized that my style and look were different but my praise, like God's favor, remained the same. Adding a pretzel to an M & M doesn't mean it's no longer an M & M. It remains the same it just tastes a little different. A rose is a rose no matter the color. Minor changes but still the same. I no longer wear dreads and I didn't have on a suit last night, but my voice, mind and heart were still focused on the Lord. Witnessing the reaction of the worshippers and seekers last night, was further confirmation that God and I were taking my music ministry in the right direction.

In the studio I'm going to continue working on a CD that will be contemporary and traditional. It will be a mix of the "old" and "new" me but it will still be the anointed me. I thank God that I was able to minister to souls in His name last night. To God be the glory!

Triumphant homegoing service!

It isn't often that I am at a loss for words. Well, it isn't necessarily that I am at a loss for words. I am just trying to form the right words to express what I witnessed today at the home going service for Bishop Walter Hawkins. Words that come to mind are triumphant, amazing, soul stirring and abundant joy. I danced, I cried and I praised. What I witnessed today was profound. The spirit of God danced in the theater running through me and the others bearing witness never slowing its pace.

When they anointed Bishop Walter Hawkins' son it was further confirmation for me that I am on the right journey. I am where I want to be but more importantly where God needs me to be. I was in great company today celebrating the life of a man that epitomized the honest, humble, forgiving, understanding and anointed individual God wants us all to be. Bishop Hawkins didn't judge. He just helped worshippers and seekers along their way ministering the word. We witnessed just who God was through the praise and ministry of Bishop Hawkins.

Without asking him, God arranges our steps and directs our paths. I say, "Dear Lord, I plan to continue walking in the steps you've provided for me. Sometimes, I might even dance my way through. Thank you, Jesus!"

The celebration is over but my praise continues... TGBTG!!

Musical tribute to Bishop Walter Hawkins...

My last post was a tribute to Bishop Walter Hawkins as he greatly influenced my music ministry. As I spoke about his influence and ministered my personal tribute to him last week, I never thought of the possibility of flying to Oakland for his homegoing service. God presented me with an opportunity to fly into San Francisco yesterday to attend the musical tribute last night and service today. Ain't God good?

Upon arriving in Oakland yesterday, we drove past the Paramount Theater bearing witness to a line of fans, family and friends extending down the block. The line of people was clearly a reflection of the life Bishop Hawkins led. His life was one of honesty and humility wrapped securely in anointing and faith. He was a light that shined bright exuding grace in all he touched. The power in his praise was always felt in the songs he ministered or in the sermons he preached. On the Love Center Ministries website it discusses how Bishop Hawkins preached about the "Fisherman's Net." Simply, as Christians we are supposed to minister to as many people as we can placing them in God's safety net. Bishop Hawkins exemplified that through his music and sermons capturing millions of people in God's safety net as the scripture suggests. Yesterday the gospel music world thanked him for having such a great influence on the industry and the many lives he touched. It was triumphant!

I stood with my eyes toward the stage and my hands toward the sky, as my heart filled with joy and my feet danced in praise. The spirit of the Lord entered in as I uttered, "Help me, Jesus!" In front of me I heard Ledisi sing "Be Grateful," and then Kathy Taylor sang "Special Gift." Soon after, Melonie Daniels graced us with, "Don't Wait Until the Battle is Over," and then Byron Cage, Ted Winn, and Donnie McClurkin harmoniously gave us "Marvelous." Marvin Sapp, Be Be Winans, and Mary Mary ministered "What is This." I knew and felt what this was. What we all felt was the power of the Lord and the full praise began as we danced for Him.

God loaned us Bishop Walter Hawkins but readily welcomed him back home after a job well done. We are left with our memories of him and songs to sing forever. The world lost an amazing man but to have been allowed to experience him through his music ministry was truly a gift from God. I'm going to keep ministering with the hope of catching more people in God's safety net as Bishop Hawkins did.

Bishop Walter Hawkins allowed the life he lived to speak for him and tonight that voice was extremely loud! The light has burned out as he journeyed home but the magnitude of Bishop Hawkins remains... We love you Bishop Walter Hawkins.

Yesterday the legendary Hawkins family lost a brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and son. The gospel music industry lost an amazing talent, voice and spirit. Bishop Walter Hawkins was sixty-one years young when he lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a Grammy and Stellar Award winning artist, producer, songwriter and dynamic pastor. Bishop Hawkins had a great influence on gospel music and ministered to millions through song. His work here on earth might be done but his contributions will live on forever.

Bishop Hawkins had a profound affect on my music ministry's direction. He sparked my passion for gospel music while providing a stellar example of how I desire my ministry to be. His contributions to gospel music and its delivery are instrumental in how my ministry has evolved thus far. With humility and an anointing easily detected, he touched my life and who I have become musically. The lessons I learned from his examples will be held close to my heart as I strive to reach followers and seekers with my music ministry.

I will be ministering at the noonday service at St. James A.M.E. Church in Newark, NJ on Wednesday and again on Sunday at their South Orange site. It is there that I will celebrate the life of Bishop Hawkins who was a friend to many. I will minister a few of his songs as a tribute to this gentle soul who affected my life greatly. He will be missed by many but forgotten by none.

I pray that God embraces his family comforting them at this time. I am certain that God welcomed him home and know he is safe from illness and harm. Thank you Bishop Walker Hawkins for simply being.

Am I dreaming big enough?

I know what I want for myself and for those who witness my praise and worship. However, yesterday I wondered if I was dreaming big enough to accomplish what I wanted to happen in this next phase of my life. Of course, I want to stand next to the Kobe Bryant's of the Gospel music industry. I want to stand alongside Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, Karen Clarke-Sheard, Shirley Caesar and other amazingly talented artists as they offer praise to the Lord. They minister via song to the masses and I want to do the same. I have to because I feel it in my spirit...

I want to grace the stage accepting numerous awards for successfully ministering to worshippers and saving lost souls as they have. I enjoy the idea of the awards but the praise extends beyond that. I want to change lives first and foremost. Yet, I can visualize standing on stage accepting my awards beginning my speech with, "I'd like to first give honor to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ..." Is that dream big enough? I am beginning to think that it is right on point. I am exactly where God wants me to be and will allow Him to direct my path.

I am getting ready to take a great big step. Each moment on this journey reflected in the songs I'm recording in the studio. Each step bringing me closer to my goal of creating a collection of songs that will clearly show my love for God. I hope to communicate the love I have for God reaffirming His power to worshippers while educating seekers. Yesterday I realized that I have to dream big. I desire more and that constitutes something bigger than I initially planned for myself. God knows what's best for me. Although my sight reaches the horizon, Gods vision extends well beyond it.

Preparation is the key...

The amazing thing about life is that you never know the exact moment when God is going to change yours. We walk with a plan in our head not knowing if our dreams will come true. Yet amazingly we keep working toward our dreams and goals as if we know that things will come to fruition. We choose colleges, careers, and do all that we can do direct our paths. We, in essence, walk by faith as we make efforts to map out our future.

From a very young age children are asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Some have absolutely no clue but there are those that are able to recite exactly who or what they want to be when they get older. They have a plan. More importantly, God has a plan for us. We may think we are in control as we choose a profession and take the necessary steps to acquire a specific career. The reality is that God has ordered our steps. He places opportunities in front of us and we have to take advantage of whatever He gives us. Our plan may not be the same as His. Sometimes He gives us more than we are capable of dreaming. However, He places things strategically for us to become successful members of society.

For me, my career goal is to minister via song. My purpose is to educate worshippers while also saving lost souls. I have been working solely on ministering through song while educating others for many years. Like a politician prepares for his office, I’ve prepared to minister. I knew from a very young age what God had planned for me. I’ve never been sure when God would direct my path to another level--ministering nationally and internationally--but I have always prepared for that time. That time is now.

Despite the challenges I’ve faced or changes that I’ve had to make, my mind has stayed on my goals. No matter how many times the devil tried to block my path, my focus has never changed. Preparation is the key to success and I am prepared. My entire life is based on my love and faith in God. I know that He is guiding this process as He has directed every aspect of my life. God gave me ample time to prepare and I am ready to see where He plans on taking me.

The time is NOW!!

As I stand in the studio perfecting my sound, I realize that I planned for this moment all of my life. From the first time I stood and sang my first song God was preparing me. God was preparing me for this season in my life as He has prepared me for every other season. I’ve been working hard for this moment sometimes wanting it to happen yesterday but knew it wasn’t time.

People are always asking me questions in regard to my singing: why aren’t you overseas sharing the word or why haven’t you done this so you are further along? My answer is always a resounding, “I am exactly where God wants me to be.” No matter how great our desire is things don’t come in our time but in His time. I put in the work through prayer and ministering and now, its God's time for this moment in my life.

God knows my heart. He has prepared me and I am answering His call. I will sing until my last breath knowing that He has afforded me the gift of ministering through song. It is time to stop thinking about it and putting things in to action! Are you ready for an anointing?

A brief update...

I ministered at Symphony Hall in Newark, NJ on Saturday at the memorial service for the "Clinton Avenue Five." It was a service for five teenage boys who were last seen together thirty years ago. They disappeared after playing basketball in 1978. Two men were recently arrested and charged with their murders. The service was uplifting and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

I am still putting in studio time working steadfastly on my CD. It sounds great and I am eager to bring it to light. I look forward to sharing it with everyone. So, I must say to God be the glory! He is smiling on me and blesses me more and more each and every day! To God be the glory!

Praising God is my responsibility...

God has done so many things for me that I couldn’t begin to tell you about it in a blog or in one testimony. If I attempted to do that, it would be an abridged version or similar to a short movie trailer limiting my time and explanation. It wouldn’t do my Jesus any justice. Therefore, because praising God is what I am supposed to do, it is reflected in what the young folks call my “swagger.” Put simply, my praise is reflected in my journey and manifested in my spirit thus exuded in my walk. And if you talk the talk, it must be coupled with the walk or it will have no meaning or truth.

I find praise in all that I do from sunrise to sunset. I praise His name when the warmth of the sun shines through my window in the morning or through the clouds on a gray day. I manage to find sunshine in the midst of each and every storm. I offer thanksgiving as I cook my meals and am encouraged to continually praise His name as He continually blesses me. God has planted my feet in every place I've desired to go as well as in places He has needed me to go. He has allowed me to survive this journey in spite of the road blocks I’ve faced. God has smiled on me and I'll continue to praise His name today, tomorrow and each day that He allows me to be in His service.

I praise Him not because it is a part of who I am but because it is my responsibility. I can never repay God for all He has done for me but I will praise Him until my last breath…

I have been ministering at different venues and spending time in the studio over the past few weeks. I apologize for not making any blog postings recently but have redirected my focus toward developing my CD. I am diligently working to bring something to you, the listener, that will reflect how serious I am about using my voice as a vessel. My intention is to explode on the scene with a masterpiece filled with songs that will inspire and enlighten you while also encompassing your spirit.

I offer up the highest praise when I sing and feel the spirit of the Lord in my soul. My life is designed by the love that I have for my Savior. I want to share that love via song and when my CD is released, I will do just that. My posts will continue but may not be on a daily basis. I will keep you informed and updated about my progress as well as where I will be ministering.

I ask for you to pray that the Lord continues to guide my spirit as I work fervently in the studio. I believe in me; therefore, I know what the outcome of all my efforts shall be. I only ask that you make sure you are ready!

Sometimes in life you need that extra push to get things done. God puts things in front of you that you don't always see. He also puts people in your life for different reasons and with each interaction you grow and learn. Whether the individual is passing through or not, you learn from your experiences with them.

At this point in time, God has blessed me with an abundance of positive people in my life. He's created a circle that I am glad to be a part of and welcome into my life. I have been encouraged and am in the studio working on my songs so that I can move on to the next step. I feel transformed. I have been working diligently and now things are moving in the right direction. I am looking forward to the day that my demo is complete as well as being able to share it with others.

I believe in me and my success in ministering to the world. I appreciate God's gifts and splendor. I am in awe at what He has done for me and can clearly see the blessings that are on the way. It is because of His grace, mercy and guidance that I wholeheartedly believe in me!

A perfect end to a busy but blessed week. I was out and about enjoying the splendor of God's beauty today gaining inspiration from each experience and every sight I witnessed. I ministered at St. James AME Church in Newark, NJ earlier in the week. The theme was "Glory" and the experience was glorious. I was a witness to the Lord's presence during the service which still rests upon me. The night was spirit filled and is on my heart with the fullness it had on Wednesday. That is the true power of God...

I spent some time in the studio this week working on some songs creating my demo. My producer gave me a track and the Lord placed the words on my heart to compose a song. It didn't take long and the words are a testament to just how good my God is. As I wrote the lyrics with great ease, which is not the norm for me, it was further confirmation that I am walking in the direction that I should be going in. It allowed me to clearly see that God is directing my path. It is something that I know in my heart but it is a joy to bare witness to His blessings. When you pray until something happens or you see something is getting ready to happen, it lights a fire in your soul. It increases your pace and allows you to become more focused.

I worked on some other things in the studio but that songwriting experience was extremely rewarding. As each day passes my desire to minister to the masses increases. I know it will come--whether on a stage or CD, or in a church, or video--it doesn't matter to me how my message reaches people. What matters to me is just that it does. As I keep working in the studio keep praying for me. Ask the Lord to guide my heart to write lyrics that touch the hearts of those in need and those who don't know they are in need. As I write, sing and prepare know that I am praying for you... I will see you soon through song.

Beyond Words... Glory!

Last night around at 7:20 p.m. I stood with my singers and praise dancers holding hands as we prayed for strength before we performed. I was a little under the weather because my allergies were acting up. Once I said, "Amen," I felt renewed because I knew God would strengthen us. I was immediately rejuvenated.

We opened up praise and worship at St. James AME Church in Newark, NJ at approximately 7:30 p.m. At 7:35 p.m. as I sang, "Let Your Glory Fill This Place," it was evident that the holy spirit had entered the sanctuary and hadn't planned on leaving anytime soon. Each person sang with every fiber of their being exalting the highest praise. There is nothing wrong with dancing for the Lord and that was reflected in the praise dancers last night. Through creative expression the praise dancers collectively showed passionate praise with each silent move they made to Marvin Sapp's, "The Best In Me." Members of the congregation started standing slowly during the first song but by the second song, "Let It Rise," the entire congregation stood on their feet worshipping, dancing, and praising His name. It was in a word, glorious! It was quite clear that we were getting ready to "have" church.

Before we left the church, I realized the spirit had entirely taken over which was reflected by the praise that extended from the pulpit to the back pew and beyond the church doors. People were singing and dancing as they openly praised His name with their eyes and hands pointed toward the sky. I'm sure that our celebration could be heard out on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard because we weren't trying to be sophisticated and secretly praise. We were trying to show people just how good God is. The Lord showed up and transformed every one of our spirits. There wasn't one person in the church that did not appear to be filled with His presence. Every negative thought or stress that may have been occupying our minds before we entered the church had been replaced by the comfort of the Lord.

There is no person or substance that can make you feel what the Lord brought into that place. I felt it in the depths of my soul and woke up this morning with a clean heart and mind. I, along with the other singers, praise dancers, and congregation witnessed God at work last night. As we sang our praises and called His name we gave all of our problems or concerns to Him. God is good and last night He came in that place and showed out. Today, I am still standing on that praise and will never let it go.

I am sitting here thinking about how things are coming together. I was in the studio today feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Thankful for what God has done and is getting ready to do for me. I was looking specifically at which direction I need to go in to complete my CD. I would like to sing within the different subgenres of gospel music and focus on various topics-- faith, current events, and possibly do a remake of some traditional songs. I want to be recognized for my ability to bring people together despite the subgenre. I want to use my voice to minister to your spirit and that could come through contemporary gospel, house and rap. Despite the genre the message will be the same.

This has been a process but I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Although there have been many bumps along the way, I am in a magnificent place. I am ready to move from the studio, to the radio, and out onto the stage. Never forgetting where I have been, stand today, and shall go tomorrow--I will sing praises until my very last breath. God is truly smiling on me and I thank Him for the blessings that are slowly yet consistently raining down on me.

For as long as I can remember I have been singing. I sing wherever and whenever the opportunity presents itself-- background vocals helping others with their projects, or with and directing choirs and on many occasions alone at events.

The location, venue, program and city may vary but my praise remains the same. I offer up the highest praise as often as I can. Whether I'm driving a car, riding on a bus or train or walking down the street, my praise is consistent. I may be sitting quietly but most of the time I am thanking God for what He has done for me, and for the blessings that have been promised yet currently remain unseen. I know these blessings are on the way because I have had a relationship with God all of my life! His love is unconditional and doesn't change based on the situation. He is the one constant in my life...

In the midst of all the madness that surrounds me in a world full of uncertainty, one thing is certain-- the relationship I have with God.

You may look at me making assumptions about my journey suggesting my burden was light. Further assuming that I'm where I stand because of some miraculous feat I managed to complete. What you fail to remember is that my steps were ordered and guided by God. It is because of Him that I stand and He'll be escorting me through the next phases of my journey. It is by His grace that I am here. It is by this grace that I am certain that anything I can manage to dream will be achieved.

Who is your MVP?

Who is your MVP? So many people have been given that honor. Who would you give the honor to? The other day I heard someone mention an athlete as an MVP of a game and my thoughts immediately turned to who I thought might be deserving of such an award.

In sports and in different aspects of life people receive the honor of being referred to as the most valuable player which equates to the individual who performed the best during the game or event. There are others awarded for acting, singing, writing and directing. The people that win these awards are rewarded for amazing performances, story lines or creations. When I sit back and think about my life, I can only think of one honoree that supersedes all others and is deserving of my MVP award. Receiving the highest praise, my honoree would be Jesus because He is the most valuable player in my life.

Jesus doesn't have to shoot the ball from beyond the three point line nor does He have to run the fastest leg in a relay to get my praise and worship. I don't praise Him just for what He has done but for what He can do. His ability extends far beyond menial accomplishments into things man could never do. Jesus wakes me up everyday, guides my steps, heart and mind. He makes the sun rise and set. He makes the rain fall, the sky blue and the snow stick. Jesus does more than what any rapper, singer, dancer, athlete or human being can do for me. Is Jesus afforded the same praise daily for His performance or is all the praise and worship left to singers or actors as they stroll across the stage? Maybe His praise is given to the athletes that score the winning goal or throws the fastest pitch.

God has given these people the talent that has made them who they are just as he gave me talent to sing His praises. However, "they" should not be honored or praised more often than He. Some people worship these idols and when they let them down, they become angered and upset. What do they expect when they idolize man and not God? The scripture reminds us not to worship any man. After all, they can catch a ball that hangs over a fence or throw a football from one end zone to the next, but they can't--provide you with an endless amount of miracles, take the sickness out of your mind and body or strengthen your spirit and provide all of your needs.

My MVP, the only recipient of my Grammy, Stellar and Oscar will always be Jesus. No one can compare to Him despite anything they do that might appear to be supernatural. It is just an ability that will allow me to cheer for them in the moment. Afterwards I offer up my praise to the one deserving all of my praise-- Jesus, He is my MVP.

When it all comes full circle...

When you work hard and things finally come full circle, do you embrace the things God has given you or do you walk away dismayed? Minister Steve's life has been busy with performance after performance and in the depths of his soul he feels his breakthrough is on the way. Things are finally coming full circle for him.

When you're taking a leisurely stroll in NYC and you bump into a friend after ten years or a friend in the music industry who you lost contact with, that is not a chance meeting. That is God interceding on your behalf. That is God making sure that you know He is ready for you to take your dreams to the next level. Minister Steve has been working everyday living the life that God has desired him to live and now as each day passes things are all coming together.

Have you ever?

Have you ever sat completely still in a quiet room but could feel the presence of the Lord? Have you ever felt like a blessing was on the way but was not exactly sure when it was going to arrive? This feeling rests somewhere deep in your soul. You can't explain it. You can't even begin to contain it but you know one thing-- its God working inside of you.

You wake up each morning with a praise on your lips and warmth in your heart knowing that your blessing is on the way. Despite the trials and tribulations, the obstacles and humiliations, you press on. Why? You feel the presence of the Lord in all that you do and you know the blessing is just beyond the valley where you stand facing whatever is trying to block your path.

You make it because your cross is nothing compared to what He had to bear. He did it all for you. When that blessing finally stands within your reach, you embrace it having already thanked Him in advance. Have you ever? Of course you have and you will again...

Steven Franklin Hill, "Minister Steve," is a Newark, New Jersey based vocalist, songwriter, and producer with a thirst to take his music ministry to the next level-- singing praises across the nation. He is an amazing talent and his greatest desire is to be a blessing in the lives of others using the vessel-- his voice-- God has blessed him with. Truly anointed man of God--Minister Steve-- is working diligently to compose a gospel CD. He is a producer, writer and vocalist.
